BiOCORE was named by the founders of CiONE as a combination of their 3 passions – Thai Chi Chuan - (slow precision movement), Yoga - (controlled breathing techniques) and Pilates - (isolation of targeted muscle groups) - the 3 principles of ‘deep’,  Pelvic stability during dynamic movement.

Pilates, named after Joseph Pilates, is a body conditioning method based on the combining of a ‘body and mind’ focus during exercise - which helps in improving, flexibility, strength and the transformation of the way a person's body feels, looks and performs.

It is a ‘mind-body’ intervention that focuses on strength, core stability, flexibility, muscle control, skeletal alignment and breathing.

Many people participate in a Pilates program follow the ‘KEY’ criteria; Concentration, Control, Engagement, Precision, Breath and Flow.

We currently offer BiOPILATES group classes at both intermediate and beginner level. All classes have a maximum size of 8 participants in order to maintain the quality of the class and to ensure that participants are doing all of the movements technically correct.

We also offer 1 on 1 classes for those who would feel more comfortable on their own or for those who want a more tailored and focussed programme.

BiOPILATES - Protocols for Postural Rejuvenation

Flexibility while moving dynamically:

BiOPilates improves flexibility, which is the ability of joints to move through their full range of motion, with the BiOCORE engaged at all times. Factors that influence flexibility are joint structure, age, gender, connective tissue, muscle bulk, proprioceptors, the presence of injury and the internal environment (health and effects of exercise).

BiOPilates allows flexibility to be achieved through the concentric and eccentric stretching elements of the program. The BiOPilates exercises are all designed to increase flexibility while actively engaging the BiOCORE in daily activities.

In regard to BiOCORE strength, the body mass will increase the patient’s hip and shoulder mobility - when it normally starts to decline – with age - through the activation of the deep pelvic floor muscle groups.

The use of the BiOPilates dynamic programs, may also assist in reducing other strains or potential injuries.

The dynamic routines of BiOPilates can be incorporated into a working day and must be maintained on a regular basis, for maximum effect.  CiONE runs BiOPilates courses on a weekly basis to ensure the best results…

Increases sensory awareness while moving dynamically:

A patient’s ability to process sensory information, affects motor control and movement patterns. Ultimately, efficient movement through increasing the BiOCORE stability and toning, increases a patient’s engagement in activity and social interaction.

Vestibular (proprioception 'markers') system while moving dynamically:

The vestibular system works in harmony with the auditory and visual systems; affecting both balance and awareness of the bodies position in space.

The BiOPilates stabilising/strengthening, improves movement and balance, which in turn helps auditory/language processing, muscle tone, bilateral integration, motor planning, emotional security, gravitational security and visual spatial perception which are all influenced by the vestibular system.

Proprioceptive system while moving dynamically:

The proprioception system processes information for spatial orientation, body position and timing of movements. The strengthening of the BiOCORE through BiOPilates, helps the proprioception in determining how much muscle force is exerted and how much the muscle stretches with active movement, primarily extensor movement.

The motor control and motor planning/grading of movement, postural stability and emotional security, are also facilitated through the stabilisation of the BiOCORE and the improved proprioceptive system.

It works closely with the vestibular system, which is a source of specialised proprioceptive input through active movement. When the proprioceptive and tactile systems work together we refer to it as ‘somatosensory processing’.

Tactile system while moving dynamically:

The tactile system functions, are both protective and discriminative. The stimulation comes from touch on the surface of the skin; light touch stimulates a protective response, deep pressure provides a discriminative response.

Therefore, a deeper pressure input – through the ‘corset-like’ tightening around the pelvic floor of the BiOCORE and BiOPilates programs - affect the body’s awareness, motor planning, emotional security, social skills, gross motor control (positional activities, movement within the environment), fine motor control (use of small muscles of the hands, fingers, tongue, lips, mouth, toes), manipulation of materials, articulation, and academic learning - due to the pelvic stability.

Rhythm while moving dynamically:

Rhythm while moving dynamically - simply defined as “the regular recurrence of an action or functions” - adds smoothness and efficiency to movement.

We experience many rhythms in our environment, including; the circadian rhythm (the 24 hour ‘rhythm of life’ including sleeping, eating, moving), sinus rhythms (heart beats), rhythm of tides (high, low, neap) and rhythms of seasons (fall, spring, summer, winter) just to name a few.

Our daily lives follow a ‘rhythm’ including breathing, dressing, eating, moving around the house, community and work places. Skilled athletes demonstrate rhythm in movement and often participate in music and dance classes to improve or refine rhythm and balance.

The aim of the BiOPilates program, is to build up to a rhythm of slow dynamic controlled movements - with the correct muscle isolation and the correct rhythmic breathing.

Two of the most highly rhythmic activities are music and language. The development of rhythm begins in infancy with parents bouncing, jiggling and moving children in rhythmical patterns.

BiOPilates embraces these rhythms, providing a controlled sensory input and begins to regulate systems - re-educating the ‘body and mind’ to refine movements with enhanced proprioception and Pelvic floor engagement.

BiOPilates programs if done regularly, can be used as ‘warm up’ routines for dancing, athletics, playing a musical instrument, horse riding and swimming; by engaging the muscles, in a rhythm of concentric and eccentric contractions and releases, all promoting the rhythmic development of the ‘mind and body’.
